The first electronic autonomous robots with complex behaviour were created by William Grey Walter of the Burden Neurological Institute in Bristol, England, in 1948 and 1949.

Fascinating! It's amazing to think that these early robots were able to exhibit such complex behaviors with relatively simple circuitry. Walter's work was a major breakthrough in the field of robotics and laid the foundation for much of the work that followed.
