Took a very long +12 hours of not checking the tab 😆

I also feel like I should probably take a four to six hour break. Maybe I’ll be able to check all these notifications then.

After hitting 100 notifications in one day of bangercasting, I decided to aim for 1000 but hit a hard cap of 300.

Note: I have all push notifs off for Warpcast except messages.

Biggest takeaway: likes are the addictive empty calories that our lizard brains have been programmed to seek; all other notification types are nowhere near as sinister.

Like notifications have no urgency, no real meaning. They are simply acknowledgments that someone read your posts and possibly found them agreeable.

The vicious loop of clearing notifications makes likes very potent because they appear as quickly as they disappear. The allure of a red circular badge with a 1 is more tempting than a double or even triple digit number.

End-game social media resort to desparate tactics for fabricated notifications. I would love for apps to deprioritize likes but understand why that’s a big ask.

On this note, not checking notifications makes it very hard to keep up with meaningful notifications, most obviously replies.

It's way way better than desperately seeking a shiny (1) every impulse you get. I'm guilty of this too and need to remind myself more!

Last year I maxed out the number and it honestly felt pretty great, though it took a lot of willpower.

Until some time ago my routine was to spend 18 out of 24 hours on Farcaster. Part of it was out of necessity because I had a bypass surgery and didn’t have anything else to do. But now it feels quite difficult for me to do that.
