my mistake was time spent on "fake work". i spent way too much time building and rebuilding product as a cope to not deal with the fact that no one wanted what i was building... huge, huge waste of time, even if i learned a lot.

What are the questions you ask yourself to assess if you're on “fake work”?

Yeah sometimes it takes a long path to just answer "no". Quickly figuring out if it's a "yes" or a "no" is a skill.

"Will doing this get me closer to where I want to go?" Implies one knows clearly one's goal. Fake work is an easy trap to fall into.
