Cosmic Desktop by System 76 is really excellent. I've been using it for a little while now. I believe its still in pre-alpha, so take that word of caution but it does window tiling exactly the way I want with modern but minimal chrome.

i have an eye on their ecosystem too, mainly because it's build in Rust. hope they release something usable soon (the terminal for example)
