Maybe smart wallets solve this with passkeys, but on mobile when I need to authentic and have to close out of the app i'm doing the transaction in and go into the authenticator app, copy the code and go back to the original app to paste the code

(non technical guy) so technical folks please enlighten me if this is a safety issue or not possible (here to learn more technical stuff, so I can apply to my product design thinking.

One example is on Coinbase Wallet if I want to get some ETH or USDC or whatever over to CB wallet from my Coinbase account I have to authenticate and go out of Coinbase wallet , copy code and come back. I guess it’s when you go from CEX to self custody mainly. (Bit my rant want mainly around my example above 😬)

Which wallet does this ? Are you talking about CEX or self custody wallet ?
