Augustus decreed that thirteen obelisks should be transported from Egypt, the administrative province of Rome, to Rome to highlight the dignity and greatness of Rome. The revival of Europeans after the Renaissance became interested in the many wonders and unforgettable stories of ancient civilizations, and thus developed a strong desire to search for antiquities, and in 1580, the erection of the famous wordless obelisk in the Vatican's Place Saint-Pierre was called a feat. In the 19th century, classical Egyptian obelisks were erected as diplomatic gifts in Paris, New York and London.
