Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David Between 1801 and 1805, French artist Jacques-Louis David painted a series of five portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte's horse in oil on canvas. Commissioned by the King of Spain, this painting depicts a highly romanticized version of Napoleon's actual crossing of the Alps via the Grand Pass of Saint Bernard in May 1800.
