A practical tip about making a campfire: Always carry waterproof matches or a fire starter. In wet or windy conditions, lighting a fire with regular tools can be difficult. Fire starters work reliably even in bad weather. For easier ignition, use dry leaves, birch bark, or cotton balls coated in petroleum jelly.
