Sarah Tabitha Babbitt lived in a religious community in Massachusetts in the 19th century and was shocked by the amount of waste produced by chopping wood. The preferred and available equipment at the time was a two-man saw, which required only half the work of moving the saw back and forth, since each person was responsible for pushing from one side.
