What goes into a great MVP?

The bare minimum to answer a hypothesis you have. If you launch an MVP and you tell yourself the following:

1) I think we just need to add X or Y feature
2) I think we just need to test with more users or a different cohort of users

imo the MVP did not do the job it was supposed to do

What goes into a great MVP? What doesn't? 

In:
Core idea launch-able within weeks. 

Out: 
Anything that won't move the needle. e.g.) fancy signup flow, onboarding, dark mode - these are post MVP scope that can creep in easily
