If I don't want to use a node provider like Alchemy, can I run my own Base node? Documentation?

Thank you, Jesse. I see 16GB RAM req. Does this mean that if I also run a L1 node on the same machine I'll need 32GB, or is this amount of RAM needed every now and then, so they can coexist in 16GB?

16GB will work for both, though it depends on usage. Heavy debug / trace usage or large range logs reqs will require more than simple block requests. The min for L1 geth is 4GB: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum#hardware-requirements
