The piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristafori around 1700 in Padua, Italy. But Cristafori's new invention remained almost unknown for about a decade, until in 1711 an Italian author wrote an article about it, which was later translated into German and widely published.

At first, the name of this instrument was Gravi Cembalo Kele Piano e Forte, which consists of two parts: piano, which means soft, and forte, which means loud 🎭
