I wish we could keep greens like this going all year round. Weatherwise it's fine but after the summer heat everything becomes an aphid and whitefly magnet.

Heck yeah. You have two options really. Onion plants planted in the spring and harvested in the fall. Or onion sets planted in the fall and overwintered for summer harvest. I prefer overwintering with my climate as it tends to give you larger onions although there is a chance of bolting if you have a weird winter/spring with a lot of temperature fluctuations.
