I tried @mathew.eth's strategy of speeding up towards the end (last half mile for me) and I think this worked well... I could pace myself and not get too exhausted and then try to finish strong. 

My second fastest time ever... but this one felt much better.

I just noticed that the photo doesn't have the time on it... it was starting to blink because I had stopped (I take terrible photos while I'm running).

My time was 26:33 but I felt a lot more in control than my fastest attempt at 26:22.
