I had backyard chickens up until last year. As long as you have space and a dedicated area for them, they’re great. I did not. They just roamed the backyard of my standard 5k sqft lot in Portland. And what I didn’t realize (until I did) is that they are little shit machines. Seriously, like 7x an hour on average. I was constantly out there power washing the patio, on top of the regular maintenance of their coop. The eggs almost made it worth it (almost).

they would have to be totally enclosed here because we have hawks and occasional coyotes

(yard is big enough tho)
