Fish can drown! While it sounds counterintuitive, fish can actually "drown" if the water they're in doesn't have enough oxygen. Fish breathe by extracting oxygen from water through their gills, and if the oxygen levels in the water drop too low (due to pollution, overcrowding, or stagnant water), they can't survive.
