Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, along with his college roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes while they were students at Harvard University. The platform started as "TheFacebook", initially intended for Harvard students before expanding to other universities and eventually the general public.
