The idea for Airbnb came about when Brian Chesky and his roommate, Joe Gebbia, encountered difficulty paying their rent for their apartment during a conference in San Francisco in 2007. They decided to rent out part of their apartment to travelers. This idea quickly evolved into a successful business.
