"I got signed out of one of my Coinbase wallets & somehow only wrote 11/12 words" The message I got from some X follower, the start of this evening. I thought: I just code a tool to brute force through ~20.000 wallets and find the known public key. Worked with my tests, didn't work with his 11 words. Why? 1/2 🧵

2/2🧵 After guiding a non-coder to run a program in the terminal; didn't work. Checked the words. Wondered if he mixed them. 12! (400 million) options? = gg Turns out he made a typo; although he checked the word list; Garage/ Garbage = both good PS @coinbasewallet ask to verify ALL words, not just the first/last
