what do you think was macron's calculation in the first place? it seems like he's going to lose to the left, while the right has gained seats in parliament.

I’m not really sure I understand tbh, it always felt like it would loosen his power I think his bet was either 1. Far right wins and he gets more power by being the opposition 2. far right loses and is shown as not a real threat, he gets more soft power But I think he didn’t really realize the amount of power the left would gain, which I think has delegitimized him

yeah that was my read as well—maybe he was indexing too much on the US, where support for the far-left has eroded in government
