That said, people are complex and flawed beings. Alex was always extremely kind to me in all our interactions. Most people who “knew” him would probably say the same if they’re being honest. He wasn’t perfect, but he was fiercely loyal to those building in his ecosystem. 

In rebuilding his new anon persona, he made a great many friends in the Farcaster ecosystem, helped a lot of builders, and brought real positivity to the space. We do ourselves a disservice if we pretend that wasn’t the case.

It also bears acknowledging that building a protocol like Clanker — especially as a cloutless anon — is no small feat. Alex’s skills at yapping, strategy, and ecosystem support were pretty much unmatched. It’s a huge part of why Clanker has succeeded, full stop.

Collective selective amnesia doesn't sit well with me.

When we learn something negative, we shouldn't immediately pretend the positive things didn't happen. I've only had a few brief interactions with @proxystudio.eth, and they were positive: friendly, encouraging. The truth -- now inconvenient for some -- is that Farcaster is better off because of his contributions, Degen Chain is better off ( /proxyswap ), and @base is better off ( Clanker would not exist otherwise ). These contributions certainly should not erase nor offset his past actions. Similarly, past negative actions should not erase positive future actions. A healthy debate can be had about second chances, and smart people can agree to disagree. But please let's not forget all the good things, the moment will learn about a bad thing.

Finally, we expose this all publicly. His reputation so good that the initial
response from many is to suggest we are in fact setting him up.

We choose not pursue legal action for a few reasons:

1) The amount is likely not large enough for law enforcement to act
2) We have no money to deal with it and wounded protocol to save
3) His sister begs us not to, saying he is likely suicidal

We assume it is over...

The answer to that question is easy for me: no. Whether legal action was taken is completely unrelated to my point. The offence is the same regardless of the punishment, or lack thereof. 

Generally speaking, I think we should acknowledge that good things can follow bad things. It doesn't mean the bad things don't count, they do. But the good things count too. We shouldn't pretend to forget the good things.
