The Autocode programming language was a generic term developed in 1952 by Alick Glennie for the Mark1 computer. Some consider AutoCAD to be the first compiled computer programming language.

Autocode was a relatively high-level language. This meant that programmers could use simpler and more understandable commands to write programs.
