Anyway, you’ve got bigger fish to fry : your country’s burning because you’ve allowed oil and gas companies to lie about climate change in the name of profit and now you’re allowing VCs to lie to you about ‘free speech,’ and ‘freedom of information’ by hinting at conspiracy theories for the same reason.

It’s the pseudointellectualism I’d expect from him. Brazil has nothing to do with the Monroe doctrine, apartheid has nothing to do with this moment unless Theil thinks history is all about himself, which I guess, he does and he doesn’t see the irony of Trump literally being ‘the ancien regime’ as he calls it.

This could be read as a direct act of hostility, however I think the British government will ignore it as inconsequential nonsense. Elon Musk is important to Americans but he really isn’t anybody in Europe so he can do what he likes, nobody cares.

Definitely, you’re absolutely right. I think though, that with Trump tarriffs coming, the EU is in a unique position to benefit from new trade alliances. Thing is, we’re an old man over here, we’ve been here before, The U.S is only a baby and they’ve never dealt with the political climate that’s on its way.
