What’s the best advice you ignored that turned out to be spot on? We’ve all been there—someone gives you advice, you think, ‘Yeah, whatever man, that won’t happen to me!” only to later realize they were right. Maybe it’s about your career, family, or something else else entirely, but we’ve all done it. I’ve done it a lot, but the one that stings is the most is ignoring the advice not to take loved ones for granted. Losing my brother Andrew this year, I was reminded of all the plans we made ‘for later’ that we would now never get to do. If I could go back, I would say “Yes” to all those times he asked to hang out or shoot the shit, no matter how tired or busy I was. What’s some advice that you’ve gotten in the past and ignored only to realize later you should have listened sooner?

Ok here it goes..was drinking hard in a bar one night in Queens after a blind date went south in my early 20’s Sitting next to and older woman in her I’d guess late 50’s. Trying to break the ice I said you have beautiful red hair like my mother’s. She snapped at me, look honey it comes out of a bottle expecting me to f’off. I laughed pretty hard and we proceeded to get mighty ripped. Later in the night she dropped some wisdom that stuck with til this day. “Y’know there’s nothing cute about an old wastrel” Hit me like a ton of bricks years later.
