Ernő Rubik, despite being the inventor of the puzzle himself, took about a month to figure out how to return the cube to its original state of six faces with six colors. 

After the Rubik's Cube was widely released, people began developing specific methods to solve it. 

The most prominent method  back then were "corners first" and "layer by layer" techniques. 

These methods were published as short books or magazine articles, allowing others /to learn the puzzle's solution as internet didn’t exist! 😀

How cool it would have been back then to be someone who can solve this crazy-twisty-puzzle! 🤯🫡

Given the explosive success and sales of the Rubik's Cube, it was inevitable that competitions would emerge to see who could solve it the fastest. 

On June 5th, 1982, the first Rubik's Cube World Championship was held in Budapest. 

Participants were selected from various national-level competitions and flown in for this inaugural major event. 

Competitors from 19 countries took part in this groundbreaking competition. 

Unlike today's format where each competitor gets five solves, the original event used a best-of-three solves format to determine the winner.
