St. Euny cemetery, Church Town, Redruth. For the ordinary miner, life was one of hardship and it often ended early. Hundreds of miners and weeping relatives filled churchyard for funerals, and funeral hymns were sung "as only Cornish miners can sing them, as the sad procession wended its way."

I think about that sometimes. My Dad used to work in a cole mine as a young adult and I think this is probably one of the toughest jobs anyone can do…

Yeah, hard and dangerous job. Another fact – in 1839, 7000 children were employed in Cornish mines. Until the age of 12, young boys worked largely above ground.
