This is something I'm not very informed about in US politics. In my country, it's well-established that you need IDs to vote. I was surprised that it wasn't required in the USA, so I checked with Claude whether there was an issue with ID access in the USA. I didn't know obtaining IDs was cumbersome in the USA. They need to subsidize ID access:

So far only Arkansas (or Arizona?) require IDs, I think it should be a normal requirement to only allow votes by citizens. Not an issue in many other countries actually, only US specific.

I would actually be surprised if getting an ID would be difficult since many of my friends easily got theirs when immigrating.

I mean in the end, it’s quiet simple, citizens should be allowed to vote and there must be a way to ensure the person at hand is a citizen. It’s actually shocking that the US hasn’t yet adopted this simple approach most other countries have for decades.

Ever hear of Jim Crow era voting restrictions? Ever hear of poll tests? Ever hear of armed thugs preventing people from voting? The term slippery slope exists for a reason. Voter fraud is almost nonexistent. I’d be willing to bet you can’t find 500 examples from the last election. ￼

Learning what I can.  Human and dog dad.  Enjoying the land of ham, tophats and the next new thing I missed already by not being online every hour of the day.

That’s a very optimistic view my friend, I see where you are coming from. But there are ongoing investigations of irregularities and it opens the door for future manipulation - even if they may not have happened yet. And carrying an ID shouldn’t be a high burden for anyone. 

Just imagine mass migration of Russian/Chinese citizens as it is already happening and they could vote too in such a setup and shape the politics and future of the country as their originating countries want it.

And yet almost no fraud and people still don’t vote. I love that people can walk in, sign their name and then help determine the future of the country.

It’s actually banned in many states for its easiness to manipulate voting. 

Not requiring an ID is even worse imho, especially when borders are not controlled anymore.

Only in Arkansas if I am correct, the remaining states do not require IDs.
