Horkus was a daimon who punished people who swore falsely or did not keep their promises. He was one of the children of Eris. These punishments included all the family members and children of the liar. According to Walter Burkert, "Only the fear of the gods is a guarantee of keeping oaths." Horkus was one of those gods to be feared.
