ETH was created by Vitalik Buterin. In late 2013,he wrote his idea in a white paper and sent it to some of his friends.After posting the idea and catching the attention of a few people, about 30 people contacted him to discuss the concept of the idea Buterin presented.The project was publicly announced in January 2014

It's interesting how Ethereum started with a white paper and a small group of early supporters before becoming the main blockchain platform it is today.
