Scottish engineer Alexander Graham Bell is credited with inventing the telephone and was granted the world's first telephone patent on March 7, 1876. While building the telephone, Graham Bell contacted his assistant Thomas Watson in the next room using another device. Graham Bell is reported to have said, "Mr. Watson - come here - I want to see you."
