When we can't see well, our first stop is often the optometrist.

Yet, if you are an elderly patient, the optometrist may not realize that the issue isn't your glasses.

Instead, it's retina damage, detectable only with equipment found in ophthalmologists' offices.

Even then, your ophthalmologist may mistake it for wet macular degeneration, instead of rarer forms of macular damage.

Only when you get to see a retina specialist you find out that you actually have geographic atrophy. There are new treatment options and luckily the retina specialist knows about them. 

But what about all the healthcare providers before that? Would they know to refer the patient right away?

Companies in the healthcare industry are constantly solving for patient referral pathway issues. Identifying healthcare provider touchpoints beyond the final specialist helps patients get to the care they need.
