Megalopolis *can* be a good movie. <mild spoiler alert> I read the bad reviews so my expectations were minimal. Yet, the first third of the movie was eye-blinking baffling. The movie did not maintain a consistent esthetic, with some scenes ruining the suspense of disbelief by mingling early 2000s technology with that of ancient Rome. every actor spoke as though they were in a film noir while reciting Shakespeare, at times literally. But underneath, it is a simple story about hope, grief, jealousy, seeking acceptance from in-laws, and healing the core mother wound. I resonated with these elements and saw myself in them. The movie is more palatable if one goes in understanding that it's magic realism with the pacing and transitions of a theater play. Expect vignettes over coherency, like haruki murakami plot lines that make you feel some type of way without the words to describe them. <Like @ted I was also left speechless, so I thought it will make a good /firstdraft challenge!>
