never mind the connector was undamaged and could be snapped back on. just took the whole thing apart and put it back together. the amount of standoffs for every little thing in the casing and structural support is incredible. learned a lot doing this. unsure how i will tackle converting this mouse to fit into a vertical casing when the scroll wheel is soldered to the board. i think i’ll have to make a snap-in base that elevates the mouse at a desired angle and has a set of mirrors reflecting the optical sensor onto the desk (?)

are you comfortable soldering? maybe keep the base still gliding on the desk, but desolder the scroll wheel and mount it where you like with jumpers and potentially a custom pcb. Just guessing, but I think this might be easier than getting the mirrors jiving. If you are comfortable soldering.

I would recommend starting off with some junk electronics to practice with soldering/desoldering. You can get a decent iron for pretty cheap; I can recommend some if you like. For desoldering, you can probably get by with desoldering wick 🀘
