Counterargument: Discord exploded after 2020 and now has hundreds of millions of users. It’s a stealth hit. People use it but somehow don’t think of it as a social network, because faces on profiles aren’t as big a part of it. But it might have as many as 500M users.

Yeah seems like the best candidate but consider it a messaging app vs a social network. No discovery, algo (yet).

I’d argue it’s a network of social networks. A lot like subreddits, but with real-time chat. Real-time chat is arguably more social than async posting. Hm! That’s an interesting observation…

+1. IMO Discord is a social app but people underestimate because it bets on the network of closed communities vs one giant global feed
