College is helpful for career if:

1. You major in something with hard skills
2. In the US, you got to a school that gives you an initial professional network

But after your first or second job, most places just care about what you've done at the previous job (or built on your own).

Yeah but getting 2) can give you a crazy edge. 

Had friends who studied at best business school in Poland and then went for a few months program to Stanford, and they got access to opportunities we can't even imagine here.
