My husband grew up in a very poor family, his parents could not provide him with even the basic necessities. He was able to get back on his feet only after he got married and got a good job.
However, memories of his hungry childhood still haunt him. For example, he will never let me throw away food that I haven't eaten enough, even if it has already spoiled. He may finish three days' worth of soup, but he will never throw it away.
Another problem is his reluctance to buy himself expensive and quality clothes that match his status. I'm sorry he had to go through this, but now we have the means to live more comfortably. I hope he can overcome his fears and afford the best.
