between the two I think there's some reasonable value for a thing to be repeated, but it's also common to overvalue it in the larger scope of many changing lives.
as far as connotation, I always took the insanity quote to be a reference to time spent on a sure thing when risk is the better choice in retrospect. sure, there's value in consistency, but at any point the "river being crossed" is either mundane or brutal. maybe Einstein is also saying that we're truly exposed to the insane, that circumstances are very unstable, and our repetition is just one coping mechanism among many, while there are such disparate outcomes.
in any case, it seems reasonable to weigh both as respective gambles with fairly low stakes. practically, one does have to repeat & deviate routines all the time, and this probably won't change for the foreseeable future. 0 reply
