Hate to say it, I think people like the idea of multiple clients on Farcaster vs the reality of everyone using a master client. There are still some great legos for building auxiliary tools like Frames, Cast Actions, or building the graph into your app to help jump start it. But in the end, I think Warpcast will remain the default client, just like Bluesky has a default client. Protocols like Mastadon that the dream of a multi client network doesn't seem to really build the network. You might be posting to Farcaster, but you're probably doing it through Warpcast 😗

None of these legos (Frames, Cast Actions, or graph) will grow protocol apps or third-party apps. All web3 growth is attached to financial incentives. For example, the surge of interest in Spring 2024 all started because of the /degen drop. Today there is little to no financial incentive alignment between third-party apps and protocols. This is the exact opposite of how Ethereum and every other blockchain grows. Everyone holds ETH so they build on Ethereum.

The incentive mismatch between social protocol teams and third-party app developers leads to third-parties needing to look for other ways to grow and monetize. Third-party apps have no incentive to contribute to the underlying protocol. Dev co want to own all of the user so they can monetize them for equity holders.
