Just because I admire the work doesnโ€™t mean I admire the artist. Think of Caravaggio; brilliant but violent, or Picasso; genius, yet misogynist. Is Art the artist?, or is the artist just a vessel? Can we separate the two? Should we? Letโ€™s discuss.

Isn't the answer in the question? :) It would be so simple if being a wonderful human being were all it took to create masterpieces, which doesn't mean, however, that every jerk is a genius in the making. Far from being all black or white.

Another layer of the question is, what are the moral implications on this? We are still celebrating the work and the artists as inseparable. It's quite a complex and interesting subject for me to dig in.
