Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite artists ever: Lygia Clark was a Brazilian artist, founder of the Neoconcrete Movement, committed to redefining the relationship between art and the human being on a conceptual and sensory level. (Thread) 🧵👇

Starting with the Neoconcrete Manifesto of 1959, Lygia Clark produced a radical turn in her career and abandoned painting to begin working with three-dimensional objects. Since then, new aspects begin to influence her activity, such as subjectivity, corporality, touch and openness to the environment.

"The bird squawks, parries and is sacrificed. The egg continues to wrap around him, like a shroud, but it is already the beginning of another bird that is born immediately after death. There is no interval. It is the feast of life and death intertwined" (Lygia Clark, letter to Mario Pedrosa)

"I no longer think that there has been one Lygia an artist and another a therapist. Furthermore, I believe that this division attenuates the disruptive force of her work" ("El híbrido de Lygia Clark" by Suely Rolnik)
