In the 1930s, Hungarian journalist László BÃró, along with his chemist brother, developed a pen that used quick-drying ink and a small ball in the tip. This design allowed for smooth, leak-free writing. BÃró patented his invention in 1938 and produced the first commercially successful ballpoint pen​.
