Inside Abu Dhabi’s $461 million investment in BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF | Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investments has become the 7th largest holder of BlackRock Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) with a $461 million investment in Q4 2024, fueling speculation about the UAE potentially holding $40 billion in Bitcoin. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart noted the rumors of Abu Dhabi's holdings are credible, although the UAE has not officially disclosed this information. Binance founder CZ suggested that this amount could be just a fraction of Abu Dhabi's total Bitcoin assets, with other sovereign wealth funds in the region likely also investing. David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, indicated that Abu Dhabi has larger holdings than reported, and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members are beginning to invest as well. This development has prompted discussions about establishing a U.S. National Bitcoin Reserve, potentially using seized Bitcoin for a sovereign wealth fund.
