A framework, a standard, an intent | Ethereum's ecosystem has over a hundred L2 networks, such as Arbitrum, Polygon, and Optimism, making cross-chain navigation complex. Users must manage multiple chains and wallets when transferring assets. The Open Intents Framework (OIF) addresses this by allowing users to specify their desired outcomes, while specialized solvers facilitate efficient execution. Developed by contributors from the Ethereum Foundation, Hyperlane, and Bootnode, OIF offers a modular and permissionless system for intent-based transactions, benefiting around 30 ecosystem teams. A central element is ERC-7683, a standard for uniform intent expression across Ethereum, which enhances compatibility and reduces fragmentation. With backing from major L2s and infrastructure providers, OIF aims to unify Ethereum’s multichain environment and promote interoperability.
