the quality, long term thinking, and creativity of memes on @base is pretty incredible

I see modern-day memes as akin to the cartoons in newspapers of the past, like Dilbert was a classic. People read the news to learn about the world, but they also craved a momentary escape from it. Cartoons filled this need universally well, just as memes do today.
