on sunday I visited my grandfather's grave. At 20 he left college and went to officers training school. Fought with Patton's third army through Europe. He served as an officer and was present when the Allies liberated the Ohrdruf concentration camp. When he got home, he began a career as an engineer at Texas Instruments, until eventually taking a VP role at a company that today plays an important role manufacturing chips used in AI. Family was the most important thing for him, and he taught me many things - he was a passionate arborist and we planted trees throughout his 14 acre property, he taught me how to shoot a rifle, how to sail, carve a bird, how to shuck an oyster. In highschool he gave me books on investing, and always encouraged me to aim higher. we were close. he passed away in 2020, right before covid really hit. I miss him a lot! Would be damn hard to explain all this stuff to him, but I'm sure he'd have lots to say about it all.
