Lack of clear incentive 

It starts off as "this will be an airdrop - so it's worth doing" 

Then Friend.tech and https://www.marginfi.com/ run it for way to long

Points should have some kinda reward mechanism that's not just farm for airdrops even if that's the finale - discount fee's etc

agree! discount fee, gas sponsorship, early access to features... are a few that come to mind!

my two cents... 

giving away value in exchange for points can bootstrap growth, but are points the best way to deliver that value?

does it make sense to set up a points system before you understand what users want? 

would be useful to understand where points have been used effectively to improve bottom line growth
