Tonal languages like Vietnamese, Chinese or Thai may sound like they are being spoken very fast to the foreign ear In reality, they are some of the slowest (syllables per second) languages in the world My first languge, Spanish 🇪🇦, is one one of the fastest. So yes, your waiter actually is talking very fast.
