I guess we "work" for a sense of purpose. Human beings like to feel useful, appreciated. We don't normally like to have nothing at all to do. 

I personally dislike working because I'm forced to be somewhere I would rather not be. If I were able to retire rn, I would definitely stop working for someone else. I would probably start a business and work for myself.
However, what I really want to do is have enough money to not have to do any kind of work. This way, I can focus on doing things that are important to me: family, friends, travel, cooking, etc... But then I would feel unacomplished, which is why I would also like to help people out. That way I'm "working" but I can choose when to do it & I'm not filling anyone's pockets or supporting the system.
