Crazy question. How do people feel about the death penalty especially in the context of these school shootings?

Not so much a crazy question, as a difficult/charged question (to me, at least).

I can be swayed either way on this by a good argument.

I don't like the death penalty, there are a lot of problems with it.

However, when someone very intentionally takes the lives of innocents, particularly children, it is hard for me to rationalize why they should be forgiven in a way that costs tax payers money and/or gives them the chance to do more evil later on.
