@blockworks, the $135M crypto media empire got stuck at 50 employees. Co-founder, Jason Yanowitz, figured out what they were missing was leadership. Blockworks went on to hire an unbelievable team of people: - Editorial Team Lead joined CoinDesk in 2013 and helped build The Block - Head of Events built and sold two events businesses and has been doing it for 20 years - Apparently, they hired a wizard as a CTO 🧙♂️ - VP of Research from Anchorage Digital and Bloomberg - Head of Listings from Binance How did Jason maximize hiring the right people at the first go? Non-negotiables: 1. Curious people 2. Airport Test: If you were travelling with them, would you be excited to spend 8 hours with them and grab some beers. Hiring is a strategy. There is a wrong way to do it. The COST of doing this incorrectly can be detrimental. Jason shared all this in an amazing podcast by When Shift Happens, Kevin Follonier about the story of Blockworks. Segment on hiring is from hour 1:22-1:31 on Spotify.
